One of the most (in)famous moments in British sport. An exemplary broadcast by Peter O'Sullevan, John Hanmer, Jim McGrath and Desmond Lynam

That reminds me, Max Steiner called, he wants his theme tune back 😉
Goosebumps everytime ❤
It wasnt Lesters fault that Nijinsky shot to the left, at the end. The horse was also probably showing signs Of a long season too. Both his defeats, including his next and final race the champion stakes at Newmarket , were by horses he would surely have easily beaten earlier in the season.
Troy is underated, He finished really well in this his final race at the end of a very long Season where He won in His 6 previous races.
Los Angeles hosts the 2028 Olympics and I would love to see the BBC use this tune for the games once again.
That old duffer with the flag should NEVER have been near that position of starter. Back on that day I sat there watching and it was obvious that the horses were FAR too close to the tape. The Starter should have had them ALL turn round and come back in at least 10 yards off the tape. It made us a complete laughing stock !! Arguably (at that time) the most famous race in the World and we had some old duffer put in charge of the start !! Still makes me cringe to look at this shambles
Friday 19th July 1996
What a field here!!!! Fantastic Light,Daylami,El Condor Pasa,Tiger Hill,Greek Dance,Montjeu wow!!!!!!!
I didn't realize until today there's a full recording of this: ruclips.net/video/ckL7lGXfB6E/видео.html
Trust me to back the winner in the race that never was !
Today we have a National that is not a Grand National it is simply to easy !
LE CRACK DES CRACKS, SEA BIRD'', RELIANCE, GRAND CHAMPION, TERMINE A 2 LONGUEURS 3/4. MAGNIFIQUE, NOUS Y ÉTIONS. 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷☀️☀️☀️🇫🇷🇫🇷☀️☀️
This grand national 1993 will go down as a disaster grand national ever.
The 1993 Grand National at Aintree will go down as one of the most shocking national, The broadcaster, the three commentators, the trainer's, the bookmakers, and the crowds can't believe what they seen. WHAT A GRAND NATIONAL DISGRACE.🖕😂😹😅😄😹🖕
I liked how Channel 4 Racing in that era made the final clip in the closing titles the horse of the day.
One of the GOAT Arc winners...
He was absolutely winner in this game but result is not
1997 winner Pentire Celebre actually won the Prix Du Jockey Club in the days when that was run over 1m 4f/2400 metres
My first and only child Amy was born 4 weeks before this race
That ident at the beginning!
The greatest of the great, you can keep Frankel he would not have got near the true legend that is Sea Bird. In 60 years of racing i have never seen any horse better than him. The one the only the legend, the mighty Sea Bird
Merci pour votre commentaire, J' étais a LONGCHAMP. Jamais Un aussi grand crack N' a foulé La pelouse de L' hippodrome. Merci infiniment pour votre commentaire, Respectueusement,
Dettori "The only way he can lose...if i fall off,"
Deep Impact not only got beat finishing 3rd behind Rail Link & Pride, but Deep Impact was disqualified from 3rd to Last for testing positive for an illegal performance-enhancing bronchodilator drug.
I loved him, he was the greatest
1:09 when it repeats, is that the first time they did it? I stand corrected and in awe if I'm wrong
Where the fuck has the time gone???
Nice usage of the Gone with the wind theme song.
Mccrirrick might be looking down on me today possibly going Horse Riding for the first time
Even better turn of foot than the Brave. My jaw hit the floor.
A fantastic race spoiled by terrible calling. Sullivan named maybe 6-7 horses at best and if a horse wasn't running in the first 6 then you wouldn't know their position. The Australian horse, Nothin' Leica Dane was called just once, upon exiting the barriers. Absolutely shocking calling
Ribot !
The Aga Khan fillies rules.
I have a feeling Ace Impact will do something similar to what Peintre Celebre did in the last couple of furlongs of the 97 Arc and put five lengths on the field in this years renewal.😉
@@stephensmall8601 Who will then?
@@stephensmall8601 Is this a similar assertion to Golden Fleece beating Dancing Brave?
Great call! Won just as you’d said it would, bravo
@@thefalsenine6438 Thanks very much for your message. Ace Impact what a 🐎! An absolute weapon and one of the best horses I've seen in my time as an avid racing fan.
Treff des Geldadels. Welch ein Erfolg für Danedream .😅
ALL ALONG, WALTER SWINBURN, TRÈS BELLE VICTOIRE,
The pain and tears of the Japanese was the big memory and the fact that he interfered with the mare Pride by crossing in front of her 300m out. Pride was the winner for me and I still cant believe the claxon was silent after the race. Anyhow he went on to become one of the worst stallion winners of the Arc ever along with Suamerez and a few more and the Japanese celebrated a great stallion and one whose genes will live on for decades in the TB.
I’m here because 96 is my favourite Olympics Game. I was 10 at the time and the music’s been living in my head rent free ever since 😂
I would whistle the theme with my dad
The greatest Olympic games theme tune of all time. Wish they could use this for every Olympic Games apart from the Pixie bit.
@@stephenduncan3605 It's good but many would say Barcelona is better.
L' histoire, SASSAFRAS, YVES SAINT MARTIN,
JAMAIS, UN CRACK SEMBLABLE. A UN DESSOUS MOINDRE, RHEINGOLD, ALLEZ FRANCE, ALLEGED, ACAMAS, ( SAUF, LA MAUVAISE CORDE 18, QUI LUI COUTE LA VICTOIRE,)), RESPECT TOTAL,
The 3 best Arc winners for me are, Dancing Brave, Vaguely Noble and the incomparable "Sea Bird 11" .
The mighty pentre celeb😍🤩😘🤗😃😙😗😚🤡🤡🤡👏👏👏👏👏👏
I was there and it was so warm. It was an amazing experience. Done my nuts on So You Think and won a bit on Snow Fairy No one knew the name of the horse that won. Think he was 80s on the track
Which 'Bright Spark' made the decision to position the Starter BEHIND the horses as they line up and come under orders so that if it is necessary to wave the RED Flag to xeclare a false start none of the jockeys can see it?
Cool race bro.
And they're still at the same sh.t today. Horses are animals they don't lineup perfectly
I remember the day so well. The first thing to say is that it wouldn’t have happened but for the animal rights protesters being on the course and causing the first delay. They are never mentioned or shown on TV, but read any article about the 1993 national and there were protestors there on the course who had to be removed by force. When the tape eventually went up it didn’t go up properly, but the jockeys realised it was a false start. The second time the tape got caught around horses feet and Richard Dunwoody’s neck. There was a system in place that if jockeys didn’t see the flag go up at the start a second flagwaver would stop them further down the course, but the jockeys just didn’t see him, or if they did they thought it was protestors on the course and kept going. It’s easy to watch on TV and assume they must have known it was a void race, but in the chaos that broke out how could they know? It’s just very lucky that no one was hurt or worse that day and it brought about big changes in how they deal with the start. What I don’t think they will ever stop is protestors who profess to care for animals and then behave in ways that could cause horses, bred to race and well looked after, to come to serious harm.
Do animal rights demonstrators generally dress in tweed wearing a fedora?
Do animal rights demonstrators generally dress in tweed wearing a fedora?
It's never made any sense to me why there has to be a tape. It's 4 and a half miles! Just paint a white line across the track and say nobody forward of this prior to the start!
